The bending radius

The flat angle is the reason that a FOC cannot be installed at an arbitrarily small bending angle or even with kinks. The smaller the bending radius the sharper the angle of incidence of the light on the reflective layer. The light beams would leave the core at this location and lead to a large loss of conduction.

If the FOC is kinked, the danger exists that the core could break or the reflective layer could crack. In this event the entire FOC is unusable.

The bending radius of the FOC must not be under 25 mm.
