Instant Start System ISS
Another current example of the integration of a comfort system in the data bus is the Electronically Controlled Glow System ISS for diesel engines from Beru AG. It is installed, for example, in the new Golf V.
This system consists of an electronically controlled steel glow plug and a control unit. The voltage of the glow plug is time and voltage dependent carried from the microcontroller in the control unit, so that an extremely short heat up time and a controlled post-heating are achieved. This guarantees a spontaneous "SI engine like" key start, stable idling, clean load assumption and low emissions, even with temperatures down to minus 25 °C.
