Conventional wiring

Conventionally wired vehicles need one electric line (cable) for each type of information and each direction of information:

As was already described, the number of electric and electronic parts in an automobile is increasing rapidly. Simultaneously the amount of data to be transmitted is also increasing.

This means that the number of the necessary cables for data transmission continues to increase. However, the wiring harnesses in the automobile cannot be designed arbitrarily thick; they would no longer have enough flexibility. In addition, the number of pins on the contact plug cannot be increased arbitrarily. And finally, a copper cable presents a considerable cost factor.

Thus conventional wiring reaches its limits in both technical and economical aspects.
